Reaching the Unreached
Series: (All)
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?  And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?  And how can they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.’”   Romans 10:14-15

    STAND
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”  — Ephesians 6:10-13 How do we stand against the devil?
    • BE AWARE of the nature of spiritual warfare.
    • BE STRONG in the power of the Lord.
    • BE EQUIPPED with the Armor of God.
    • BE VICTORIOUS!  God keeps His promises and never fails.

    • Our Christian walk should be characterized by love first and foremost.
    • Our Christian walk will give credibility to our words of witness.
    • Our Christian walk will open our lives to blessings both now and forever.

Elijah & the God of All Generations
    Series: Elijah
1 Kings 19:19-21 & 2 Kings 2:1-15 Our God is eternally active.  As He worked in past generations, so He still works in our lives today—and will continue even when we are gone.  He calls us to learn from those who have gone before us, and to do our part in training up a new generation of faithful believers. Before Elijah’s earthly ministry came to an end, God directed him to anoint the young man Elisha as the prophet to succeed him.  In Elisha’s response, we can find direction in carrying on God’s ministry.
    • Walk a little closer to those who are setting a godly example.
    • Go on a little further, building on the foundation already laid.
    • Ask for a little more of God’s power and grace in order to make a difference in this world.
Hebrews 12:1 - "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."

Elijah & the God Who Speaks
    Series: Elijah
1 Kings 19:9-18 After the great victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah was forced to flee from the wicked and vindictive Queen Jezebel.  God sent him all the way down into the Sinai Peninsula to Mount Horeb, where God had spoken to Moses 400 years earlier.  While there, Elijah learned something about listening to the voice of God. How does God tend to speak to us today?
    • Through His “still small voice.”
    • Through a sense of inner peace.
    • Through open and closed doors.
    • Through other people.
    • Through the study of His Word.

Elijah & the God Who Responds
    Series: Elijah
1 Kings 18:30-39 In the days when evil King Ahab ruled the northern tribes of Israel, God called on His prophet Elijah to summon the people back to Himself.  On Mount Carmel, Elijah faced off against 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah to see whose deity would send fire to burn the sacrifice upon the altar.  Only Elijah’s God was able to respond—and in a very convincing way! Isaiah 46 illustrates the problem with idols—whether statues or anything else people honor above the One True God:
    • They must be created by people.
    • They must be sustained by people.
    • They have no power to respond to the needs of people.
But we serve a living, loving and powerful God!
    • He is able to hear every prayer.
    • He is able to care about every need.
    • He is able to respond with wisdom and power.
“Listen to Me...you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth.  Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you.  I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”  - Isaiah 46:3-4
